You haven’t lived until you’ve spent an entire day trying to frantically draw what you’ve done that entire day while also doing things that are not just drawing…because drawing endless repetitions of yourself in the act of drawing is only kind of fun.
What?!?
If you haven’t spent a significant amount of time in the company of autobio cartoonists, you might be unaware that the first of February is something of a high holiday for many of us. It’s Hourly Comics Day - a day dedicated to drawing your activities, hour-by-hour, from waking up until bedtime. I’ve been participating fairly regularly since 2016 and have shared several years online .
This year, I was particularly excited about #hcd as I still have not gotten back into the habit of making regular diary comics. Spending a whole day in “AutobioLand” seemed like it might help jumpstart that currently-dormant portion of my brain.
I would tell you more about the day, but honestly the comics kind of do that themselves. I drew six and a half pages over the day (with Rahel generously covering an hour of drawing for me - an approach I highly recommend!) and was happy with the pages I drew. It was a good reminder that I remain fluent in comics - I needed it. As a bonus, I filled the final pages in a sketchbook I hadn’t used in a while, but which contained two previous years of hourlies. It was a gratifying experience all round!

Here are my comics from this year:
Have you tried Hourly Comics Day? Would you??
I love what you did with the triangular coloring! No, haven't tried HourlyComicsDay yet - still recovering from 24HourComicsDay 2008!!! :D
